On Thursday, political strategist Prashant Kishor revealed plans for a 3,000 km “padyatra” (foot journey) in Bihar, clarifying that he currently has no intentions of forming a political party. Emphasizing his commitment to working for the people, he announced that he would traverse Bihar from October 2, starting at the Gandhi Ashram in West Champaran, to gain insights into the issues facing the public. During a press conference, Kishor stated that over the next 3-4 months, he aims to engage with prominent individuals in Bihar to build the concept of “Jan Suraaj” (good governance) and involve them in the process.
While acknowledging that there are no imminent elections in Bihar, Kishor ruled out the formation of a political party at this stage. He asserted that if a political party materializes, it won’t bear his name, but he would collaborate with those who initiate it.
Having declined the Congress’ offer to join the party recently, Kishor asserted that the Congress needs to focus on its internal functioning and reforms. He noted that the party does not require him and has capable individuals who know how to lead. Speaking about his upcoming campaign, Kishor highlighted Bihar’s backwardness despite decades of rule by Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar. He stressed the need for new thinking and efforts to uplift Bihar from its current developmental challenges.
In the previous week, Kishor had hinted at “turning a page,” leading to speculation about the formation of a new political party. He expressed his desire to engage with the people to better understand the issues and contribute to “Jan Suraj” or people-centric good governance.
